This model has some unique historical points. This was the first model to combine a diesel-injection engine (2.5 liter BMW 6-cylinder) with electronic controls. It was also the last to use interior’s supplied by British luxury supplier, Connolly Leather, before they went out of business.

1993 RRC Vogue LSE LWB Classic

One of the older and rarer LWB models, this classic SUV is available with a 4.2 liter V8 and is less reliant on electric additions than newer models. However, many require significant renovations to both the interior and the engine to restore them to full luxury.

What to Check if Buying Second Hand

If you decide a Range Rover is the classic SUV for you, it’s worth knowing a little bit about the history of the vehicle before you go shopping. For example, if you want a 4-door vehicle, you’ll need to look at models from 1981 onward. For the first 11 years on the market, the Range Rover was only 2-door, which might not be suitable for all buyers. However, the 2-door models are more valuable, and the original Velar prototypes are the most valuable of all.

Models from 1994 and beyond are more luxurious than older models, with features such as rectangular headlights instead of round ones, and the modern chassis shape. If you’re purchasing a customized Range Rover Classic, of course, you’ll have total control over the features your car includes.

Other notes to look out for when purchasing a second-hand Range Rover Classic include:

• Go beyond just checking the chassis for rust. Check under the body, the rear tailgate, and the rear load floor too, as well as where the doors open and close.
• Check the vehicle hasn’t had an uncertified engine conversion, such as an LPG conversion.
• Check the service record of the vehicle. For example, a V8 that hasn’t had an oil change in over a decade might be need an expensive amount of work to get it back into working order.
• Test the electrics on newer models.
• Fuel-injected models often suffer from misfires or airflow meter issues. Fuel filters may also have been removed. Get an experienced mechanic to check these aspects over if you’re considering keeping or renovating the original engine.
