The iconic legacy of the Land Rover Defender just got even better. Now, with a custom-restored Defender 90, Defender 110, or even a Defender 130 from ECD, you can be the proud owner of a classic British vehicle that seamlessly blends the legacy of the past with the modern technology of today. Over the years, ECD clients have gotten pretty creative with their Defender customization and upgrades. Here’s a look at some of the most common ECD Defender upgrades.
The iconic Land Rover Defender needs no introduction. Since its inception in 1983, Land Rover’s Defender lineup has become synonymous with offroading. At ECD, a dedicated team works with clients to breathe new life into these iconic British classics while adding some modern twists along the way.
Hundreds of revamped Defenders have left the ECD headquarters over the years. Each one has its own unique flair because every Defender is built to our client’s exact specifications. While every client has a slightly different vision for their Defender restoration project, some upgrades are popular across the board.
1. Custom Upholstery
Over the years, we’ve come to find that one of the most common ECD Defender upgrades among our client base is the inclusion of custom upholstery. At ECD, clients are afforded the luxury of completely customizing their restomod Defender, which includes the ability to choose from a variety of premium leather options, fabric patterns, and carpeting hand-crafted by the ECD upholstery team.
2. Brembo Brakes
Another customer favorite and one of the most common ECD Defender upgrades is Brembo brakes. After forming a partnership with Race Technologies out of California, we have been able to introduce the Brembo performance braking system to our Defender builds. This high-performance braking kit is designed to fit both the front and rear axles, creating an environment for optimal performance.
3. Air Ride Suspension
For clients really wanting to bring a modern Defender feel to their vintage Defender, the incorporation of ECD’s air ride suspension system proves quite popular. ECD’s air ride suspension system is fully adjustable, allowing for both a 2-inch drop and a 3-inch lift. These features help make the Defender more compact when navigating tight spaces in the city and provide more height when tackling rugged terrain.
4. Puma Dashboard
The Puma Dashboard has been another of the most common ECD Defender upgrades over the years. The Defender classic dashboards are very simplistic. However, they’re not necessarily that functional because the built-in AC vents hit the driver and the front passenger right in the knees. Ouch!
Luckily, the Puma Dashboard lets owners incorporate a sleeker, more functional dashboard into their vintage Defenders. Plus, the Puma Dash integrates a ton of modern technology into the dashboard and moves the AC vents to the console, which helps to add some extra legroom too.
5. Wireless Charging Station
While there are countless upgrades ECD clients can choose to integrate into their Defender builds, the last one we’ll touch on here is the wireless charging station. In the modern world, a wireless charging station to charge phones, tablets, and more while on the go is a must-have. That’s why the wireless charging stations continue to be one of the most common ECD Defender upgrades among our client base.
From classic vintage restorations to the most grandiose restomod build project, the team at ECD can turn your Defender dreams into reality. So, whether you’re looking to incorporate just a few upgrades into your vintage Defender or you want them all, the most common ECD Defender upgrades are always within reach during the design and build process.
