Nothing beats the iconic styling of the classic Land Rover Defender. However, the safety features and standards of the 1980s and 1990s don’t hold up to today's standards. Luckily, with a custom Defender build from ECD, clients can enjoy the safety and peace of mind that comes with modern safety features while preserving the iconic styling the classic Defender is known for. Here’s a deeper look at how the dedicated team at ECD prioritises incorporating space, safety, and comfort in every restomod Defender that leaves the garage.
One of the top safety features that ECD clients choose to incorporate into their classic Defender is a six-point full external roll cage. Some additional safety features that have proved quite popular in restomod Defender builds include backup cameras, parking sensors, a digital rearview mirror, and a tyre pressure monitoring system.
In addition to these top safety features, ECD clients also have the opportunity to incorporate high-quality add-on features to their restomod Defender build projects. These add-on features greatly enhance the space, comfort, and luxury of these custom Defender builds. Some favourite add-ons among ECD clients include air ride suspension, full roof racks, power-folding side steps, a live feed camera on the rearview mirror that provides a full panoramic view of the rear, and the option to incorporate a custom-built chassis.
Wondering what these safety options and add-on features look like in practice rather than just in principle? Well, then, it’s time to take a look at some of ECD’s most notable restomod Defenders.
A truly one-of-a-kind restomod Defender, Project John Galt is a 1995 D110 outfitted with a high-performance 450-horsepower GM LT1 engine. Along with its iconic styling, this classic Defender turns heads with its stunning full-gloss Cornish cream finish and black accents all around.
Its interior is just as stunning as its exterior. Project John Galt features vintage gauges, dual captain chairs in the front and mid rows, and four inward-facing jump seats in the load area. Each seat is luxurious and plush, finished in a horizontal Garret Bellissimo Marzipan and Berkshire black leather.
This classic Defender sits on 20-inch ECD custom wheels and BFG all-terrain tyres. In terms of safety, this restomod Defender is outfitted with a six-point external roll cage, a tubular front bumper with a Warn winch, and rectangular LED spotlights up front and in the rear. Some additional modern features include an Infinity Kappa sound system, Apple CarPlay, rear AC, and access to USB charging ports throughout.
Another restomod project that showcases an array of possibilities when it comes to Defender customisation at ECD is Project Urban Brute. This 1997 classic Defender 110 soft top has been outfitted with a high-performance 430-horsepower GM LS3 engine. This restomod Defender is simply stunning, finished in Eggshell Indis Silver with black accents all around.
This restomod Defender is customised with 18-inch Kahn 1983 wheels with BFG all-terrain tyres. A nice safety feature on this Defender build is its six-point external roll cage. Some additional exterior features include a classic front bumper with Warn winch, an ECD custom steering guard, four LED spot lamps up front, and two at the rear.
Stepping into the interior of this D110, passengers are met with the perfect blend of luxury and comfort. This restomod Defender is outfitted with a MOMO Eagle steering wheel, silver gauges, dual captain chairs in the front and mid row, and two forward-facing jump seats in the load area. Every seat in this D110 is finished in stunning Garrett Avon Sterling and Avon Coal leather. Some additional modern features include a Gel audio sound system, a wireless charging station, Apple CarPlay, rear AC, and access to USB charging ports.
For any gearhead that wants to enjoy the classic feel of the original Defender but wants a little bit of modern safety and luxury, then ECD is the best bet.
