Each one of our custom Land Rover Defender vehicles is built for a certain lifestyle or purpose. We’ve had builds ordered for going mudding in Costa Rica, one outfitted to survive in the woods, and one built for vacation with adjustable tubular doors. With such a range of custom builds, each one has its own accessory combo perfect for its adventures. Here are some of our most popular accessories based on the custom Defender’s intended purpose and terrain.

Snow, Sand, Mud

If your custom Defender is being built to take on any slipper or sliding terrain, you may want a range of accessories to help get you out of a tough spot. Two amazing accessories for this are sand tracks and a winch bumper with a brush guard. Several of our D130 build owners have opted to have removable sand tracks installed on the rear bed of their Land Rover Defender 130s. The rear bed access allows for them to easily be removed for use, and as a bonus, it looks completely badass. Sand tracks, despite their name, are great for several types of terrain, including snowy hillsides, muddy forests, and of course, rocky dunes or beaches.

It’s not enough to take on these rugged terrains with a simple bumper plus winch. You’d want to go all the way with a brush guard bumper that has a heavy-duty winch, like one from Warn or Smittybilt. This is a fully packed bumper that can help in case you’re wedged or to keep you from sliding into anything around you.

Water, Murky Mudd

Rarely seen here in the United States, but if you really plan on sending your custom Defender into the surf, you’ll want to have one of the original Defender’s coolest accessories; a snorkel. While we rarely ever get a build request for a snorkel, we’ve been lucky enough to work on a few builds that have one. The snorkel allows for clean air to come into your engine while your vehicle is partially submerged in murky depths. There’s no experience quite like driving your car through water.

City Streets, Long Country Roads, Hillside

If your custom build is meant to be a street beater or the muse of a country song, you’ll want to ensure your Defender has an amazing pair of tires, either Nitto Grappler or our most popular option BFG Mud or All-Terrain tires. This will ensure your build can grip whatever is underneath it and offer a smooth ride, whether you’re taking on narrow mountain-side roads or the mountains themselves. Just like awesome tires, you’ll want to have an amazing suspension system as a feature of your custom Defender build. A performance suspension with a lift kit will allow you to adjust your build’s height to take on new terrain and also give it a smooth drive, especially on those open highways where you’ll need to maximize your speed.

Regardless of the terrain, a roll cage is always a great accessory to have. A roll cage is another original Defender feature that helps in the event that the vehicle rolls. As a safety feature, it is an amazing accessory to add to your custom Defender. Safety Devices offers four and 6-point roll cages as well as full roll cages.
