2021 proved to be another year full of innovative and industry changing builds. We produced 3 customized Soft top D110s, each more different than the last, our first electric RRC, our first LT4 RRC, and our first build featuring sheep skin. Every year we select a few of our favorite builds for the year and also ask our followers to select some of their favorites. These are the results for our Top 2021 Custom Defenders (in no particular order).
Project Blue Tide, is a stunning convertible Land Rover Defender 110 with a powerful LT4 engine in Cool Khaki Grey Gloss paint with silver exterior accessories that completely complement the exterior. Inside, Blue Tide is wrapped in dual-toned blue and silver leather. Blue Tide has a black canvas top, a silver roof rack with basket, Hella spot lamps, and 18 inch silver Sawtooth wheels. Blue Tide has middle captain seats, and in the rear, 4 inward facing jump seats over the builds custom built teak bed flooring and rear interior door cover.
Project Ski, the most innovative build to come through the ECD production line at the time, is our first electric Tesla Direct Drive EV Powertrain powered Range Rover Classic. Painted in an Alpine White, the build remains true to a more classic exterior with 18 Inch Land Rover Boost 5 Spoke Wheels in silver. Ski’s interior is wrapped in a warm-toned cognac interior with black piping on its Land Rover captain’s chairs. Seating 5, this luxury electric RRC made headlines throughout its build journey and was featured in publications such as Forbes, Carscoops, and Motor Trend.
Project JP, is a Heritage style Defender 110 with a classic restored 4.0 Rover V8, in Keswick Green full gloss paint and classic 16" Wolf Steelies in white. Inside, JP has Coja Rawhide, with Brown stitch, wrapping its seats and dashboard. The build’s white roof, black roof rack, and classic dashboard add to its heritage style.
Project Valhalla, is a menacing looking Aintree Green custom Defender 110 with a powerful LT4 engine, upgraded Brembo brakes, and an ECD Air Ride Suspension. Charcoal and tan leather wrap the interior. Its black accessories complement its 18 inch 1983 Kahn Design wheels in Matte Black.
Project Shilo, a Mercedes Desert Sand Series IIA with black accents and invokes the essence of the historic Land Rover Camel Trophy vehicles. This build has our California Compliant configuration with its CA GM E-Rod engine, Air Ride suspension, and EBC Fast Brakes. Its dash is wrapped in black leather, while the build’s door cards and seats are wrapped in a warm tan leather.
Project CMS, is a restored Defender 110 with the pickup style in Santorini Black Metallic with an LS3+ under the hood. 20 Inch Kahn Mondial, an all-black interior, and an Xlander grille complete this vehicle. It’s 2+2 seat setup is wrapped in a black leather with a vertical diamond stitch. Adding to its look, CMS has a Bison 4 point roll bar.
Project C2, is a California Compliant custom Defender 110 in Marine Blue Full Gloss with a tan canvas top and a classic TDI engine that complements its original style Defender dash. Wolf White steel wheels complete the look for this classic but modern build. Inside, the build is wrapped in Avion Caramel leather and hydro-dipped finishes. C2 seats a maximum of 9 passengers, perfect for family trips to the beach.
Project Vineyard, is a heritage style Defender 110 in Bronze green with a white roof and black 16” Wolf OEM Steel Wheels and a horizontal stitch Carlyle Loam leather interior. With its black wheels, roof rack, and classic style front grille, this build is a true testimony to when restored Defender meets modern customizations.
Project Mule, is a rare and fully customized Defender 130 in Audi Suzuka Grey in full gloss with black accessories and Bowler Lightweight 18 inch wheels in Anthracite. The build’s interior is wrapped in a dual-material of cowhide and sheepskin, perfect for its life in Jackson Hole. From the dashboard to the headliner, the entire interior has custom animal skin upholstery. Brembo brakes with red callipers, Fox Off-Road with a 2-Inch Lift, and an LS3 power this build’s performance. To add to its stunning look, the build has a custom built teak bed in the rear.
Project Crossfire, is a Porsche Dark Blue convertible D90 with a massively powerful 650 hp LT4 engine, a Garrett Berkshire Espresso Leather interior, and an Alpine Halo 9 Stereo. With its 20″ Inch Kahn Mondial Retro wheels in black, front tubular bull bar, and Kahn wide body kit make this build a little modern menace that can take on anything.
Project Shaka, is a soft top D90 in Arles blue with an LS3+ and Fox Off Road Suspension. Its Garret Cadence Spice leather interior complements its tan top, and vintage style gauges. Adding to its classic look, Shaka has 16 Inch Wolf White steelies with classic rear bench seating and a 4 point Safety Devices roll cage.
Project Tormenta Negra, is an LT4 powered Defender 110 with an 8 speed transmission in an eggshell Vulkan Grey Pearl finish with eggshell Ferrari Rosso Red accents on several points of the builds exterior accessories.Inside, Tormenta Negra has a dual tone Garret Cadence Spice and Phantom Charcoal leather. Tormenta’s Xlander style grille, 18 inch Kahn 1983 wheels, and Kahn Design wide body kit take this build from classic to modern customized Defender.
