Key Takeaways:
When it comes to custom-built restomods, few vehicles carry the prestige—or the price tag—of an ECD Defender. So, what makes one of these bespoke rigs worth nearly $300,000? Let’s explore the legacy, craftsmanship, and unique builds that set ECD Defenders apart.
From the utilitarian Series I in 1948 to today’s six-figure restomods, the Land Rover Defender has always embodied rugged versatility. Its boxy design, steel body panels, and flat-fender silhouette combine to create a profile that has remained timeless for over seven decades.

Collectors, off-road enthusiasts, and weekend adventurers alike are drawn to the Defender’s:
The value of original Defenders has steadily climbed. According to Classic.com, first-generation Defenders (1984–1990) average $57,023 at auction, with lows of $6,200 and highs of nearly $295,000.
While garage queens can fetch high prices, modern restomods deliver classic Defender capability combined with modern reliability, comfort, and luxury.
Building a custom Defender at ECD Automotive Design is not about picking options from a catalog. It’s a full design experience where every client is involved in every step, from the initial sketch to receiving the keys.
At ECD, every build starts with a conversation, not a catalog. What do you want it to look like? How do you plan to use it? What kind of power do you need under the hood? From there, the team works hand-in-hand with clients to bring their vision to life, one stitch and bolt at a time.
Clients can select from multiple drivetrain options:
Beyond the engine, every aspect of the Defender can be personalized:

With ECD, you’re not just buying a Defender. You’re building a story, tailored to you, with details that no other vehicle on the road will ever have. It's special, unique, and one-of-one, always.
An ECD custom restomod Defender costs nearly $300K, because it's not just any old revamped truck. It’s pure and simple craftsmanship on wheels.
At the end of the day, whether or not a $300,000 price tag is worth it depends on what's important to you. But rest assured, every restomod that rolls out of the ECD Rover Dome is built to the highest standard possible. Because we get it, when you’re spending this kind of money, nothing less will do.
