While classic Defenders are still sought-after today, most simply can’t compete with today’s standards in their original state. That’s the beauty of a custom Defender. A custom Defender, like the ones built in the ECD garage, seamlessly maintains the classic looks of the coveted Defender while simultaneously blending in the power, performance, and technology available today. Here’s a deeper look at how the Land Rover nameplate still draws a versatile appeal today, from ranches to red carpets.
The Rover Company began building utility vehicles in the West Midlands of England following World War II. The original vehicles were modelled after the British Army Jeeps used during the war. Their primary purpose was to serve as agricultural vehicles that could be taken anywhere. The popularity of these boxy utility vehicles soon soared, allowing the Rover Company to begin exporting the Land Rover nameplate worldwide.
Over the decades, the Land Rover nameplate became synonymous with more than just its working roots. It rose to become a status symbol. This became increasingly true as Land Rover added more models to its lineup, like the Defender in the 1980s. Staying true to its roots, the Defender soon became seen as an ultimate off-roader due to its extreme versatility. However, its boxy design and visual appeal also elevated the Defender to a sought-after showpiece.
Custom restomod Defenders from ECD can truly be outfitted to appeal to any lifestyle. From tackling the trails to beach living to snowy mountain tops to the busy city atmosphere, a restomod Defender delivers in style. Just take a look at Project Catamount and Project Nicky Boom.
This restomod Defender 110 was custom built to handle the snow-capped mountains of the northwest. Finished in a stunning blue colour with silver accents, Project Catamount embodies the spirit of adventure with just the right splash of modern comfort. Built to satisfy an adventurer's lifestyle, this restomod Defender features a front winch, rear tow package, LED work lights, round spotlights, and roof ski and snowboard racks.
As if these features weren’t enough already, stepping inside Project Catamount is even more dreamy. The restomod Defender’s interior is both luxurious and functional. This D110 seats nine passengers with two captain chairs, a three-passenger mid-row, and four inward-facing jump seats in the load area. Each seat is wrapped in luxurious tan leather. Other notable features of this restomod are its vintage gauges, touchscreen stereo, Apple CarPlay, and Bluetooth connection.
While Project Catamount is designed to handle the snowy slopes, it's quite versatile in nature. It can accommodate any lifestyle with its massive storage capabilities, seating capacity, and high-performance 450-horsepower LT1 engine. One thing is certain: Project Catamount will turn heads no matter where the road leads, from plowing through the snowy mountains trails to cruising down the open highways.
A stunning restomod Defender, Project Nicky Boom is a D110 soft top. It offers a gorgeous exterior, finished in matte Narvik Black with black accents all-round. It sits on 18-inch Kahn 1983 wheels with BFG all-terrain tyres. This custom Defender also features a multi-point soft top with a front roll cage, adding an extra layer of safety. Additional exterior features adding to this restomod’s versatility include its tubular front bumper, five rectangular LED lights up front, and a NAS rear bumper.
In the interior, this classic Defender is outfitted with a Nardy Challenge steering wheel, nostalgic VT gauges, dual captain chairs in the front and mid rows, and four inward-facing jump seats in the load area. Each seat in this classic Defender is finished in luxurious Double Diamond Garrett Cadence Licorice leather. Some additional modern elements in this restomod Defender include a Gel audio sound system, Apple CarPlay, Bluetooth capabilities, and access to USB charging ports.
Whether it’s a restomod Defender made for the ranch or the red carpet, the team at ECD has it covered. The skilled technicians at ECD are dedicated to creating one-of-a-kind custom Defender builds that possess versatile appeal across different lifestyles.
