Last month, we discussed in depth the process of restoring the Jaguar E-Type iconic body and giving it a new life. After the E-Type body is restored, the next step begins in the clean area of the facility where there are currently a North and South line. The E-Type currently begins with the South line at the Roller Assembly Bay.

The Roller Assembly Bay is championed by Mike Marrero, with over 20 years of automotive mechanic experience and holding several ASE certifications including Brakes, Electrical, Steering & Suspension and Engine Repair. This is where the frame is prepared before moving into powertrain, interior, etc. In this bay, the brake system and struts are installed, while the prop shaft is set, and differential cage is installed.

Installing a brake system on a Jaguar E-Type is a technical process that should be carried out by professionals with high levels of expertise and competency. The Jaguar E-Type is a high-performance automobile that deserves nothing short of excellence in terms of the efficiency and reliability of its braking system. The major steps of the brake system installed include the selection of high-quality brake components whose specifications are compatible with the current vehicle, including the brake calipers, pads, and rotors, and the hydraulic parts. A quality assurance procedure is done to ensure proper validation of the newly installed system.

Installing struts on a new Jaguar E-Type during assembly is a similar process that demands precision and adherence to engineering guidelines. The main ECD roller assembly expert in the assembly work is Mike Marrero, an experienced technician who understands the assembly process. A series of steps to have the struts installed properly are utilized during this process. All suspension components and the mounting of these components are inspected for metal quality and damage. This preparation is essential for alignment. The struts are aligned, and the turret head in the wheel arch is marked to ensure correct and accurate alignment. The struts are properly fixed, and the correct fasteners and process are attached. The Jaguar Struts assembly is subjected to alignment testing to prove efficiency in suspension, stability, and the overall balance of the vehicle’s left-to-right ratio and the alignment of the wheel-literature.

At this bay, the prop shaft, also known as the driveshaft, is installed. This is a critical system as its main function is to deliver the torque and rotational force from the powertrain to the wheels.

Not only is this bay crucial to the production critical path of production, but it is also an extremely importance step in the assurance of safety. With systems such as braking, suspension and driveshaft, it is crucial that each are installed and working properly. Each component must be torqued to spec.

The roller assembly is attached to a body that has been painstakingly restored to keep the style and iconic appeal of the Jaguar E-Type. The entire process takes 4 days to complete and is an essential step in the critical path process.
