Building in the U.S. market from 1971 to 1981, the Range Rover Classic has always been a “for anything” vehicle but with touches of subtle luxury compared to other family vehicles. It was the perfect new custom luxury vehicle for ECD to add to its line of Land Rover restorations. Initially designed to be sleek and minimal, the Range Rover Classic, RRC here at ECD, begs for luxurious editions to maintain its iconic status.
As with all of ECD’s builds, our restorations are rebuilt from the ground up with all the custom touches added on in-house. The base vehicles for our RRC builds are either provided by clients themselves or sourced by us from all around the world. Once the body kit and frame are removed, we do a full inspection to assess the build’s foundation. RRC rebuilds differ from our typical Defender rebuilds in that the body remains intact for the entirety of the restoration process. Only the doors, hood, and rear hatch are removed. After all the old wiring, seats, dashboard are removed, the frame and body are sent to The Lab for paint prep.
Being such a classic build with such clean lines, our prep and paint team take extra care to cater to the details of the RRC’s body and bumpers. While the build goes through a meticulous paint job in our state-of-the-art paint facility, the chassis remains two doors down to the Rover Dome for the build’s new wiring and to get its new engine. While most clients prefer the original look of the Range Rover Classic, a new engine gives the vehicle modern performance and reliability.
As always, our GM drivetrains are the most popular engines for our restored Range Rover Classics and are backed by a 2-year/50,000 mile warranty. Once the engine is dropped in, the RRC goes through a rigorous rewiring process to bring its former glory into modern times. The process requires great skill and extensive attention from our electrical teams. Wires are colored to match the original setup to make repairs and references to original diagrams easy. All harnesses and wiring are thoroughly tested upon installation to ensure working functionality throughout the restored Range Rover Classic.
Since there aren’t any new parts available for this custom Luxury SUV, most of the original parts are re-upholstered in-house and reinstalled with the client’s design selections and materials, from premium Italian leather, suede, and more. With thousands of materials, colors, and upholstery options, it truly makes the RRC feel like the ultimate luxurious custom dream.
