When it comes to classic sports cars, few evoke such a level of awe and admiration as the Jaguar E-type. While gearheads seem to agree that the Jaguar E-type is one of the most beautiful vehicles ever made, they can’t seem to agree on whether the Jaguar E-type coupe or the Roadster is more aesthetically pleasing. Here’s a look at the Jaguar Coupe vs. Roadster.
A true British icon, the Jaguar E-type has been a stunner since its inception. In fact, it’s heavily rumored that even Enzo Ferrari, the great Italian entrepreneur and founder of the Ferrari sports car brand, called the rivaling Jaguar E-type “the world’s most beautiful car” upon seeing the British sports car for the first time. However, the Jaguar E-type is more than just a pretty face. Its looks, coupled with its power and performance, have enabled the Jaguar E-type to maintain its legendary status over 60 years after its original production.
The first Jaguar E-type rolled off the production line in 1961. The mass production of this sports car was inspired by its predecessor, the Jaguar D-type. While the E-type was designed for the masses to enjoy, the D-type was made to dominate the racetrack. The D-type handled its role quite efficiently too.
The D-type was manufactured from 1954 to 1957. During those production years, it took victories at the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1955, 1956, and 1957. After such success on the racetrack, gearheads desperately wanted to get their hands on their own Jaguar racecar. Jaguar introduced the E-type in 1961 to satisfy this desire.
The Jaguar E-type was produced from 1961 to 1974, with three different Series released during these years. The Series 1 Jaguar E-type was released from 1961 to 1968. The Series 2 was produced from 1968 to 1971. The final rendition of the Jaguar E-type was released with the Series 3 from 1968 to 1971. Throughout the production of all three Jaguar E-type Series, the sportscar was always available in two distinct styles: the roadster and the coupe.
So, Jaguar coupe vs. roadster, what’s the difference? The Jaguar coupe vs. roadster debate all comes down to preference. If you’re after a convertible sports car, the Jaguar roadster is the only way to go, as it features a convertible soft-top. However, if you’re looking for a slightly more practicable option, you’ll want to go with the Jaguar coupe, which features the classic hard-top hatchback style. At the end of the day, you’ll be sitting behind the wheel of the most beautiful car ever made, regardless of whether you choose a roadster or coupe.
Once you make the decision between the Jaguar coupe vs. roadster, there’s only one place to go to get a one-of-a-kind Jaguar E-type restomod: ECD Automotive Design.
