The Land Rover Defender rides high on the laurels of its rich heritage. Enthusiasts not only love the Defenders for their utility and history but there is also a heap of historic features and accessories that scream “Land Rover Heritage.” Among these cherished features are the iconic Hella auxiliary lights, known for their timeless design and robust performance. These lights not only shed light on an off-roader’s path but also simply look amazing. Other stylings of Heritage-designed Defenders touch points are the original, now iconic, paint colors of the Defender offering a peek back to a fascinating chapter in the model’s history. These original Defender paint colors allow us to step into the era-specific aesthetics and functional choices that define each generation. Exploring the evolution of these paint colors provides a valuable lens through which we can appreciate the vehicle's journey through time.
Another key aspect of the Defender's classic appeal is the TD5 dash. This dashboard design has an enduring charm, blending simplicity and functionality to create an interior that is both timeless and practical. The Defender has long been an SUV that often is mistaken for a truck that only cares about function and never form. Embracing these classic elements, such as Hella Lights, original paint colors, and the TD5 dash, allows us to appreciate the design aesthetics and delve into the educational and historical aspects of the Defender's legacy, providing a comprehensive understanding of what makes this iconic vehicle a true classic in the world of off-road exploration and automotive history.
Project Heritage 90 perfectly embodies the heritage Defender elements in their full glory. This Classic Restored Defender takes the iconic vintage style throughout the entire build, but underneath lies a powerful, modern SUV. In keeping with the truck’s original design and driving profile, this Defender 90 has a fully restored Rover V8 engine and a fully re-engineered manual transmission.
One of the best ways to preserve that original Land Rover look is to use original Land Rover paint colors. This one is finished in Land Rover’s Grasmere Green, this Defender 90 was modeled after the “Huey” Land Rover Defender with its Final Edition “Hue 166” genuine Land Rover seats. White “steelie” wheels punctuate all of these other heritage Defender elements beautifully. The tan canvas top touches on the nostalgia of a time when Land Rovers were agricultural beasts of burden while maintaining a crisp look. All of these design choices create a perfectly charming look at the heritage and classic style of the Defender.
Project Tuki is based on the larger Defender 110 model. You don’t have to stretch the imagination far to be able to picture this one ripping through the Savana on a safari or running hay across a foggy field in England. This fully restored vintage Land Rover Defender 110 is finished in the traditional Land Rover color of Keswick Green with a Land Rover heritage-styled grille. This Defender 110 has classic white steel wheels with a matching roof, a Nardi Deep Corn
wooden steering wheel, a full roof rack, and a vintage-style interior that seats nine. There is little to distinguish this as a new restomod other than the LED headlights. From toe to tip this fully embodies what a heritage Defender is all about; modern convenience paired with classic style.
We at ECD love the classic Defenders. The original style and rugged nature of the Land Rover is what makes us passionate about building them. That said, there is also something special about the power and creativity of a tastefully built restomod Land Rover Defender that can still conjure that vintage aesthetic.
Project S2, is a slightly different take on an ECD heritage Defender. S2 is an unrivaled restored restomod truck. This build is a modern take on a true British classic but still sports many heritage features like its Grasmere Green paint job with its steelie wheels painted to match. The white roof adds to its classic look and is complemented by the Land Rover heritage-style grille.
Its modern, luxurious design elements are its dual-toned and intricate Rugata Brown and black leather interior. The original Land Rover powerplant was replaced by a far more powerful LC9 V8 but paired with a traditional 5-speed manual transmission.
Another favorite for Defender enthusiasts is Project Chill, a fully fitted D110 in the traditional Land Rover color of Coniston Green with a gloss white roof and matching white steel wheels. The build gets a full roof rack on a six-point external roll cage with a rear ladder and brush-guard bumper, ready to beat through the rough stuff at a moment’s notice. Classic series gauges and a Momo Indy steering wheel complement its dual-toned Torino Terrier & Supersoft Black interior.
We can’t talk heritage Defender parts without highlighting Project Family Vacation. You can tell this build is tough from a mile away with its rugged Safari-styled exterior, manual transmission, and Black 8-spoke steel wheels to match its removable black canvas soft top. Its Coniston Green paint pairs well with its Nappa Thema 5001 Ginger and Thema Nero interior and its Nostalgia VT Series gauges. This build is truly a stunning representation of the Defender pedigree and how well it melds with a modern custom truck.
Wrapping up our heritage trucks is an ultra-rare NAS Defender 110 overhaul called Project Alpine Yeti. The fully restored North American Standard build is finished in Alpine White with 16” steel wheels in painted Hot Rod Black. The classic build is powered by a very cool 2.8 Cummins Turbo-Diesel engine giving this Defedner all the low end needed to tackle any off-road obstacle. This Defender still has its original roof rack, front brush guard, and snorkel. Its dash is a recreation of the original TD5 dash originally found in these trucks. Details like this set it apart as a true classic restoration that is a perfect representation of the Defender heritage.
All ECD vintage Land Rover Defenders manage to keep the brilliant simplicity that Land Rover perfected ages ago while bringing a unique and practical edge to the iconic trucks. ECD’s Defenders are beyond compare in this regard and offer everything a 4x4 enthusiast would want but in a package that exudes vintage class and style.
