A world leader in custom Land Rovers, E.C.D. Automotive Design has remained at the forefront as a result of evolution and continuous innovation since being founded in 2013. Currently making its way through production, is E.C.D’s first R2.8L Cummins diesel Defender 110.
The classic Defender 110 was originally offered with an optional 2.25L diesel engine that produced 68-bhp. Throughout the following years, the Defender diesel engine saw many upgrades, though always remained extremely underpowered.
E.C.D. Automotive Design has successfully installed a 2.8L Cummins turbo-diesel engine paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission to a custom Defender 110. The Cummins 2.8L produces almost twice the horsepower and 4 times more torque than the original classic Defender diesel engine.
With the help of Axis Industries, the R2.8L turbo-diesel engine for the restored Defender 110 was able to be installed ‘behind the steering box and in front of the rear cross member with no custom oil coolers or cutting of the cross member,” says Axis Industries.
With the release of the upcoming 2020 Defender, which will be offered in North America with a diesel engine, the question of reliability and power still remains. The R2.8L Cummins diesel is proven to be efficient and reliable, bringing a new power option to the classic Defenders from E.C.D. Automotive Design.
