Upholstery is an integral part that makes up the customization of ECD builds. Not only do clients get to pick the materials they want for their custom Land Rover Defenders, they get to choose every detail down to the color of the stitching that brings it all together. In 2015, exhausted with pressuring local shops to produce the highest quality work, ECD made the decision to bring our vehicles upholstery needs 100% in-house. We sourced vendors for top-notch carpet, leather, and other materials, adding in an entire team to run the department.

Today, the upholstery team is led by Angel, a dedicated man known for putting his personal stamp on every single seat. Running a dedicated team, Angel also fits each build’s center console and dashboard upholstery while ensuring the details of every build are exceptional.

Before the prettier bits of upholstery are even installed, Miguel, a member of the upholstery department, installs four layers of heat and sound insulation to every custom Defender. Starting with a sound deadening Dyna material and finishing up with a lush but durable carpet chosen by the client, Miguel ensures the vehicle is properly insulated for warmth and sound. He also fits every single Land Rover Defender headliner the upholstery department custom makes.

Setting up to reupholster some of the coolest Land Rover Defender seats from Corbeau Front racing seats to traditional Land Rover seating, duo Alex and JC perform prep work for the upholstery department. Their jobs involve all the prep-work and pre-cutting materials, measuring four times before making precise cuts to the client’s dream interior materials for their custom Defender. 

Finally, everything comes together under the nimble hands and fingers of Lana and Blanca, the sewing duo of the upholstery team. Working with a range of materials and figuring out which stitch to apply to make the finish of each custom Land Rover’s interior look flawless is taken on easily by the pair, defining having an eye for detail.

Since every aspect of ECDs builds is custom designed per the client’s dream design, ECD can offer a variety of stitch, styles, and designs for our interiors, from sheep to alligator skin, diamond to honeycomb stitch, we’ve done and can do it all. When the interior comes together, you can truly tell that each vehicle is a one of one custom, and the client’s dream for the vehicle comes alive. After seeing the inside of our vehicles, we are proud to say jaws drop at seeing a vintage Defender and classic Land Rover vehicles having such a beautifully modern and handcrafted interior.
