Is there anything more British than a cup of tea, fish and chips, or a vintage Land Rover? At ECD, we don’t think so. Of course, one of our favorite models in the Land Rover lineup is the Land Rover Defender. Here’s a look at the legacy of the Land Rover Defender and some of the most popular vintage Defender styles.
The legacy of the Land Rover Defender stems back to the early 1980s. The very first Defender rolled off the production line in 1983. However, at the time, it was not branded with the Defender name quite yet. Instead, it was simply known as the Land Rover One Ten. The following year, in 1984, Land Rover released the smaller two-door version of the Land Rover One Ten, known as the Land Rover Ninety.
In 1985, Land Rover released a four-door pickup version of the Defender known as the Land Rover 127. Interestingly, the 127 was the only original Defender style marketed numerically. However, what remained the same with these initial Defenders that weren’t really Defenders was that their names all corresponded with their wheelbase measurement in inches.
It was the release of the Land Rover Discovery in 1989 that spurred the name change of the Land Rover One Ten, Ninety, and 127 to sport the new moniker of Defender. Thus, in the early 1990s, Defender 110, Defender 90, and Defender 130 became the base of vintage Defender styles. Land Rover decided to ditch the alphabetical spelling of the One Ten and Ninety and dropped the 127 in favor of 130, which was a closer measurement to the vehicle’s new wheelbase configurations.
At ECD, our dedicated team builds every vintage Defender restoration project to our client’s exact specifications. We offer our clients customizations in the three vintage Defender styles, the D90, the D110, and the D130. Here’s a look at what your Defender build from ECD could look like.
The D90 is the classic two-door Defender SUV that provides drivers with superb offroading capabilities. At ECD, the D90 is available in two trim levels, Custom and Signature. The base price of a Custom D90 is $219,995, and the base price of a Signature D90 is $279,995. The SUV is available both as a soft-top and a hard-top model and can seat up to six people.
The four-door Defender SUV option in the D110. The D110 is a capable offroading SUV that provides a little more room in storage and seating capacity than the D90. Like the D90, the D110 is also offered in two trim levels at ECD: Custom and Signature. The base price of a Custom D10 is $224,995, and the base price of a Signature D90 is $284,995.
The four-door pickup-style Defender is known as the D130. With four doors and an extended truck bed, the D130 rounds out the Defender lineup as another rough-and-tumble offroader. The D130 from ECD is also offered in two trim levels, Custom and Signature. The base price of a Custom D10 is $239,995, and the base price of a Signature D90 is $299,995.
At ECD, we specialize in revamping vintage Defender styles and giving them a second chance at life. We build every Defender project to our client’s exact specifications, bridging the gap between British Land Rover imports and American consumers.
