The dedicated team members at ECD are no strangers to creating one-of-a-kind electric Land Rovers. However, the electric Land Rovers rolling out of the ECD headquarters look a little different these days with the introduction of groundbreaking 2nd generation electric drivetrain technology. Here’s a look at what this revolutionary EV swap brings to the 2nd generation ECD electric Land Rovers.
ECD had been importing and restoring iconic British Land Rovers for many years when a new opportunity arose in 2020: the introduction of an all-electric drivetrain for ECD Defender build projects. ECD was able to offer clients the opportunity to power their restored Land Rovers with an all-electric drivetrain after partnering with ECC, also known as the Electric Classic Cars.
This initial partnership allowed the team at ECD to outfit classic Land Rovers with a Tesla drivetrain that produces 450 hp and can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in around 5 seconds. These Tesla-powered drivetrains were instrumental in bringing an all-electric option to ECD clients. They were utilized in countless build projects, including Project Britton, the first fully electric D110 in the USA; Project Ski, the world’s first Tesla-powered Range Rover Classic; and Project Morpheus, a gorgeous D110 finished in full gloss Isles Blue and records as the second fully electric Defender restoration build at ECD.
While the 1st generation ECD electric drivetrain was both groundbreaking and successful, evolution is necessary for continued growth. After three years of offering Tesla-powered drivetrains to ECD clients, the all-new 2nd generation electric drivetrain from ECD is finally here. The 2nd generation electric drivetrain equips the new electric Land Rover built at ECD with an electric drivetrain free from refurbished Tesla cells.
Charging time is the most transformative change between the 1st generation ECD electric Land Rovers and the 2nd generation electric Land Rovers from ECD. The 1st generation electric Land Rovers from ECD required an 8- to 10-hour charge period to go from a 10% to 80% charge. The 2nd generation electric Land Rovers can go from a 10% to an 80% charge in under an hour. This massive difference in charging time brings the practical and general usability of the all-electric drivetrain to an all-time high at ECD.
The debut of the all-new 2nd generation electric drivetrain at ECD headquarters means that there are also a ton of new benefits for clients considering an all-electric drivetrain option for their restoration projects. Some of the top benefits of the 2nd generation electric Land Rovers include:
