Vintage Land Rovers have long been revered for their off-roading capabilities and reliability out on the road. However, these rugged and trusty vehicles aren't usually thought of as the most comfortable rides around. Despite this somewhat unflattering reputation when it comes to comfort, ECD Defenders have been working overtime on correcting the narrative. So, how comfortable are ECD restored Defenders?
The Land Rover brand began producing utility-type vehicles following World War II. The design of these vehicles was inspired by the British Army Jeeps that were used during the war. In addition, their primary purpose was to handle demanding agricultural workloads. Thus, despite the luxury the name is synonymous with today, the Land Rover brand can trace its roots back to a rough and rugged past.
In the same respect, the vintage Defenders of the 1980s and 1990s aren't necessarily known for comfort. Rather, these SUVs have been revered for their ruggedness and off-roading capabilities, but vintage Defenders restored at the ECD headquarters can be transformed to be the most comfortable ride on the block through modern upgrades and modifications.
ECD Defenders are ultimately as comfortable as a client desires. For example, some ECD clients prefer to keep their Defender build as close to the original model as possible. In contrast, others are all in favor of integrating all the latest comforts, luxuries, and modern technology as possible into their restomod Defender. The bottom line is that an ECD Defender is simply as comfortable as the client sees fit.
Whether you're a vintage Defender purist or you're looking to build a restomod Defender that rivals the comfort found in modern Land Rovers, the team at ECD can make it happen. Some of the top upgrades or modifications made to enhance the comfort of these rough and rugged vintage Defenders include:
ECD Autodesign has created Defenders that are full of modern comforts, including:
A 1996 Custom Defender 110, Project Monarch is a stunning SUV packed to the brim with modern comfort. This ECD Defender is finished in a gorgeous full gloss British Racing Green color with black and silver accents all around. In terms of upgraded safety features, Project Monarch features a full external roll cage.
Taking a peak into the interior, Project Monarch exudes modern comfort with Recaro Orthoped front and mid-row seats. All seats within this D110 are finished in luxurious horizontal Poltrona Frau Mahogany leather, including the two bench seats in the rear cargo area.
Under the hood, Project Monarch is powered by a GM 450-horsepower LT1 engine with an 8-speed automatic transmission. This D110 also features an array of modern touches that provide ultimate comfort, including an Infinity Kappa sound system, Apple CarPlay, a wireless charging station, rear AC, and USB ports located throughout.
A 1991 Custom Defender 110, Project White Tiger is a head turner finished in a stunning full gloss Chawton White with black and white accents all around. For an added safety feature, this D110 sports a six-point external roll cage. Another modern feature of this D110 is the panoramic-style rear windows.
Taking a step inside Project White Tiger, passengers are met with all the modern comforts they could ever dream of. This D110 features two Corbeau Trailcat front and mid-row seats. In addition, there are four inward-facing jumpseats located in the rear cargo area of this D110. All seats are wrapped in a gorgeous single vertical diamond Garrett Bellissimo leather stitched together in Garrett natural thread.
Along with its comfy seating configurations, Project White Tiger is further equipped with modern comforts in the form of a Gel Audio sound system, Apple CarPlay, Rear AC, a wireless charging station, and USB ports located throughout the vehicle.
