At ECD, we like to complete Land Rover Restoration projects that seamlessly blend the iconic Land Rover heritage with luxury and everything modern technology has to offer. While we love innovation and incorporating modern conveniences and styles into our build projects, we also love recreating iconic Vintage Defender looks right down to the paint job. Here’s a look at some of our favorite vintage colors in Land Rover restorations.
While vintage Land Rovers can come in countless shades and color combinations, there are certain colors that just scream classic Land Rover. Some of these vintage Land Rover colors include green, black, and blue.
The color most synonymous with the classic Land Rover is, of course, green. This is because, in the early days of Land Rovers in the late 1940s, military surplus supplies dictated the color choice. Over time, Land Rovers became known to sport a palette of green shades, from Keswick to Coniston to Grasmere and more. One of the most recognizable colors in the vintage Land Rover lineup, Keswick Green, is named for Keswick, England, located in the northwestern part of the country. The town is on the shores of the lake known as Derwentwater, surrounded by the magnificent Lake District mountains and scenery.
The ECD custom Defender 90, known as Project Tembo, is one Land Rover restoration project that features the vintage Keswick Green color in full gloss. The vintage color is accented with black and silver accessories and sits on 16-inch Wolf Wheels that feature hubcaps painted in the vintage Keswick Green color. Project Tembo has even made the ECD team’s list of the Top 5 Vintage-Styled Defenders.
Looking at the Coniston Green color, one ECD project that sports this stunning shade of green is Project Johnny. This custom Defender 110 restoration features two front and middle-row seats, plus four inward-facing jump seats in the load area with black accents throughout.
The beautiful color of Grasmere Green can be seen on Project Heritage. This restored Defender 110 is painted in stunning Grasmere Green color with silver accents all around and features a distinctive silver front bumper. On the interior, Project Heritage features the MOMO classic wooden steering wheel with custom black gauges, seamlessly blending modern amenities with the vintage Land Rover aesthetic.
Another key vintage Land Rover color is black. While black may seem like a pretty straightforward color, there are countless shades of black when it comes to Land Rover paint jobs. One of the most notable shades of black in the Land Rover lineup is Santorini Black. One ECD build that sports the Santorini Black color is the Custom D110, known as Project TRBB.
An additional variation of Santorini Black is Santorini Black in Eggshell. Project Mas is one ECD Custom Defender 130 that sports the Eggshell Santorini Black paint color. This unique Custom D130 looks menacing on its exterior, sitting on 20-inch ECD custom wheels and BFG all-terrain tires. However, on the interior, Project Mas gives way to custom hot pink pointers and lettering on white gauges.
Another popular shade of black that many ECD clients opt for is Narvik Black. Project Knight, a Custom Land Rover IIA ECD build, sports the Narvik Black paint color in full gloss. This stunning Land Rover IIA is powered by the 6.2L eRod V8 engine and sits on 20-inch Land Rover Stormer Wheels with road tires. Project Knight seats eight with two front seats, two middle seats, and four inward-facing jump seats in the load area.
The color blue is another that needs to be mentioned when highlighting vintage colors in Land Rover restorations. Once again, there are a variety of blue shades that can be considered classic to the Land Rover brand. One such shade is Arles Blue. Project Galena is one ECD build that sports the Arles Blue color. This custom D110 project is powered by the powerful 6.2L L92 V8 engine with 403 hp.
Another ECD build that sports a classic blue look is Project A-Layne. This Custom D110 sports the Tamar Blue color with a Chawton White roof, a classic color combination in vintage Land Rovers. While the exterior of this build is a classic, the interior on Project A-Layne is one-of-a-kind with custom Italian leather, blue plaid fabric, and wooden accents throughout.
One ECD build that received a unique shade of Blue was Project Hard Drive. This eye-catching Custom D110 sports Calvary Blue, a shade custom-made at ECD. This D110 is a build that seamlessly blends together the elements of modern technology, luxury, and the classic Land Rover look.
At ECD, we love using vintage colors in Land Rover restorations just as much as we love coming up with one-of-a-kind shades and color combinations. Whether you’re looking to recreate a classic Land Rover look or go bold with a style uniquely your own, the team at ECD can make it happen as we build every project to our client’s exact specifications.
